What is Juliette’s House?

Juliette’s House is a child abuse intervention center that provides a warm and caring environment for children who may have experienced abuse or neglect or witnessed violence in their home. Children of all ages come to Juliette’s House to make sure that they are healthy and safe. At Juliette’s House, your child will have a medical examination and talk to a forensic child interviewer.

Juliette’s House brings together a team of professionals from health care, mental health, law enforcement and child protective services in the same place at the same time. This approach ensures that children receive child-focused services in a child-friendly environment.

Juliette’s House performs medically and forensically sound assessments for children ages 0-18 and developmentally delayed adults referred to us for suspected:

  • Sexual abuse
  • Physical abuse
  • Serious neglect
  • Exposure to drug endangerment
  • Exposure to domestic violence
  • Exposure to traumatic events

Medical Exam

Examiners conduct medical examinations to:

  • Evaluate the overall health of the child
  • Look for evidence of child abuse
  • Reassure the child that the child’s body is still healthy and answer the child’s questions and concerns
  • Make referrals for any needed follow-up medical or mental health treatment

When appropriate, the examination includes a forensic interview with specially trained child interviewers who concentrate on eliciting reliable statements about possible abuse and maximizing the amount of information gained from the child, given the child’s age, circumstances and readiness to talk. This information is used by different professionals who will ultimately evaluate the child’s statements.

  • Thorough, uncontaminated fact gathering
  • Long-term child protection issue
  • The child’s current emotional well-being

At Juliette’s House we bring a variety of professionals together under one roof so families can access a full range of services in one centralized, child-friendly location. We introduce services quickly so children and families can begin healing.
