Celebrating Children!

June 9th is National Children’s Day, an exceptional day honoring and appreciating the role that children play in our lives. On this day and any other day, we can pay tribute to their contributions, fight for their rights, and raise awareness of the challenges they deal with. Although National Children's Day is a special opportunity to concentrate our efforts on building resilient children, Juliette’s House believes that every day is an opportunity to support and inspire children advocacy.

Today’s happiness shapes tomorrow!

Although daily support is important to overall well being, celebrating your child is more than meeting their fundamental needs.

DAILY SUPPORT VS. CELEBRATION

Supporting children daily involves providing them with a safe and nurturing environment that meets their physical, emotional, and educational needs, as well as advocating for their rights and well-being (learn more about the areas of wellness here). This is an ongoing commitment that requires the collective effort of parents, caregivers, educators, and community members.

Celebrating children, on the other hand, is about recognizing and honoring their unique talents, interests, qualities, achievements, and potential. It’s an opportunity to make them feel valued and appreciated, boosting their self-esteem and sense of belonging. While support is a continuous effort, celebration can be periodic but impactful, reinforcing the positive messages of love, care, and appreciation.

HOW DOES CELEBRATING MY CHILD INSPIRE CHANGE?

Recognizing our children's accomplishments and skills encourages them to find constructive ways to express themselves, their energy, and their creativity. Acknowledging their efforts in academics, athletics, the arts, or any other enjoyable pursuit motivates them to keep up these productive endeavors. In addition to aiding in their development, this gives children a feeling of purpose and accomplishment.

Celebrating children also teaches them the importance of recognition and appreciation in relationships. When they feel celebrated, they learn how to celebrate others, which builds empathy and understanding. This practice helps children understand what healthy relationships look like when they are based on mutual respect, appreciation, and support. By modeling these behaviors, parents and caregivers can teach children how to form and maintain positive relationships with others.

HOW YOU CAN CELEBRATE YOUR CHILDREN:

  • Plan a family outing

  • Host a family game night

  • Spend time together creating arts and crafts

  • Cook or bake together

  • Write letters or notes to your child

  • Host a mini award ceremony with certificates for their achievements

  • Go for a walk together

  • Engage in outdoor activity

  • Visit the local library or park

  • Prepare or order your child’s favorite meal

  • Surprise your child with a small gift of appreciation

  • Read or share stories with your child

  • Have a movie night

  • Create a mini home spa

  • Host a family talent show

  • There are so many opportunities!

These activities not only celebrate your child but also create long-lasting and meaningful memories. National Children's Day is a wonderful occasion to celebrate the happiness and potential changes children bring into our lives. By engaging in familial bonding, spreading awareness, and recognizing the difference between daily support and celebration, we can make a significant impact on their lives. Building confidence, motivation, and resiliency is crucial to their character development!

Let’s come together as a community to advocate for their rights, ensure their well-being, and celebrate their uniqueness! After all, children are our future, and it’s our responsibility to nurture and protect them every step of the way. Celebrate National Children's Day by showing your children how special they are and making them feel loved and appreciated!
